People from all over the world came to Victoria during the gold rush seeking their fortune, and the people from counties of Ireland were heavily represented.
The information on the inmates of the Ballarat Benevolent Asylum, many of whom were Irish, has now been updated to included general inmates 1860-1897/98, and female inmates and their babies of the Lying-In Wards 1892/93-1904/05. The Ballarat Historical Society index is searchable alphabetically and provides a great range of information on the people who populated the Victorian goldfields and at some stage needed the benevolence of the community. www.ballarathistoricalsociety.com/index.php/the-collection/bbsr |
