Church Records
Parish registers of all denominations are an excellent source of genealogical research and the best starting point for Irish research as they include baptisms, marriages and sometimes deaths for all classes of the population. They also pre-date civil registration which began in Ireland in 1864.
At our centre in Woodford we have the most extensive range of source material available for East Galway. Church records of baptisms, marriages and deaths/burials vary from parish to parish. We have transcripts of Roman Catholic Church records of baptisms, marriages and deaths, commencing 1766 to 1917 approximately and Church of Ireland records of baptisms, marriages and burials, commencing 1747 to circa 1900.
