Information about each person was written down in ships’ passenger lists, known as “manifests.” You can search these millions of records for information on individual Ellis Island passengers.

- Commonwealth War Graves Commission – www.cwgc.org – The Commonwealth War Graves Commission pays tribute to the 1,700,000 men and women of the Commonwealth forces who died in the two world wars. A non-profit-making organisation founded by Sir Fabian Ware, it is charged with keeping records of the 1.75 million Commonwealth war dead. It commemorates the war dead in the building and maintenance of cemeteries and memorials and in the establishment and preservation of records.
- Calendar of Patent Rolls – http://sdrc.lib.uiowa.edu/patentrolls/ – The Patent Rolls are primary sources for British history, a record of the King of England’s correspondence starting in 1202.They record the letters patent or royal letters issued unsealed, and were started during the reign of King John. The patent roll was started in order to keep track of letters that had been issued by the government. Instead of keeping the records in a register or book form, they were written on sheets which were stitched together into long rolls to form a roll for each year.
