Joan Killian Gallagher
Director
In the true spirit of the Diaspora, The Killian Homeplace Family History Centre has locations in Fermoyle, County Longford and Fairfield in Connecticut, on both sides of the Atlantic. Joan has forged an alliance with Sacred Heart University’s Irish Studies Department to provide a student intern each year to coordinate the administrative aspects of the research operation, while the local research and outreach endeavors are conducted in Longford. She commutes between both locations.
The native New Yorker combined her experience as a successful entrepreneur, founding Warden Brooks, Ltd in 1978 , and a dedicated genealogist, founding The Killian Homeplace in 1998 to create an impressive Research Team of experienced genealogists and historians in an idyllic setting in the heart of Ireland. Nestled just up from the shores of Lough Ree, County Longford’s chapter of the Irish Family History Foundation is dedicated to help visitors find their place of origin, learn about their ancestors and have a lovely cup of tea with neighbours and long-lost cousins. The once derelict cottages and surrounding sixty acres of farmland have been brought back to life in a new and meaningful way for the benefit of the local community and the world beyond.
