Carrigan Notebooks : Diocesan Historian - Very Rev.William Canon Carrigan

The Very Rev. William Canon Carrigan was the well-known historian of the Diocese of Ossory whose four-volume history was published in Dublin in 1905. While researching the history and antiquities of the diocese he noted his findings in many notebooks which are now held in the Diocesan Archives in St. Kieran’s College, Kilkenny. Among these were lists of Kilkenny Freeholders, Wills, and lists of many inhabitants of Kilkenny county from the Census of 1821. We acknowledge the co- operation of the Diocesan Archivist in transcribing the information from the notebooks.
